TAITA LUXURY HOTEL; luxurious and affordable

If you ever find yourself in Wundanyi or Taita Taveta County at large and you are looking for an affordable and serene place to spend your night, weekend, business trip or weekend getaway in Tsavo, look no further! Let me introduce you to THE TAITA LUXURY HOTEL. Located at the heart of Wundanyi town, 50kms from Voi town, TAITA LUXURY HOTEL offers a mix of serenity, convenience and a satisfying countryside flair for its visitors.

I arrive at TAITA LUXURY HOTEL 4pm Saturday after a one hour drive from Voi town through the spectacular meandering roads and beautiful sceneries up the Taita hills. I intentionally play Freshly Mwamburi’s tunes along to set the Taita mood rolling. I even learnt the Chonyi Ni Wasi by Abel Kifoto and Maroon Commandos lyrics along the way. If it is your first time along this road, you will be tempted to take several stop overs for photo sessions of the breathtaking scenes. I swear it is not easy to traverse Taita Taveta County without stopping for random pictures. If you don’t, then a stray elephant will force you to stop and appreciate the beauty of county 006.

There is ample parking space at the hotel it which means I don’t have to stress about it. A warm welcome at the reception by a beautiful damsel makes me feel at home, I later learn her name is Mercy, she must been have the best student in her hospitality class.  The check in process is very fast and I settle for a corner room 204 overlooking Wundanyi town and just above the bar (for obvious reasons).

There are about 30 standard and deluxe – single, twin and triple well-furnished state of the art rooms at the facility. Each room has a king-sized bed with extra clean and warm quality beddings. The rooms are all fitted with 32inch TVs, a wardrobe, reading or work table, cable TV and fast internet. The strategically located balconies overlooking the hills, are perfect for viewing the sunrise and the sunset. The bathrooms are sparkling clean with hot showers in case the Wundanyi climate overwhelms you. Proper ventilation, good design and serenity get an automatic thumbs up approval and I can’t help but take a quick nap.

Meals at the restaurant are served on order basis. Advice!! If you happen to find yourself here kindly order Samaki Wet fry served with exotic veggies and Ugali prepared by the talented chef Jose…Thank me later!! Am not sure where they get the fish from the hills but trust me, for a moment I felt like I was sitting at Dunga beach, Kisumu Dala. Ohangla music literary played in my head as I devoured the well prepared creature.

After such an appetizing meal of course nature dictates that I should head to the bar. A well-stocked bar with an array of drinks ranging from exotic wines, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Being a staunch imara Kama samba associate, pilsner mbili baridi were perfect to wash down the fish before heading back to my room for other tasks with my two most loyal companions- Dell Laptop and My Nikon Camera.

At the top floor of the hotel, a well-equipped conference facility which carries the capacity of approximately 40 persons, is available for your business meetings. And guess what?? At an affordable fee of 1800/= per head, you get a full conference package that comes along with, Am tea, Stationery (pen and notebook), Mints, Mineral water and Soda, Lunch, Pm Tea and snacks…Amazing right?

I thought Wundanyi was cold but to my surprise, the temperatures at TAITA LUXURY HOTEL were very friendly that night, I even dreamt that I was somewhere in Malindi only to wake up and be greeted by an amazing view of the sunrise behind the hills upon opening my windows

The full breakfast at TAITA LUXURY HOTEL is yet another thing. Prepared and served by the amazing duo, Chef Jose and David the waiter. These two guys are great and interactive. Since they say a picture is worth a thousand words, let the one below do the talking…

Some of the places around that you can visit while enjoying your stay at TAITA LUXURY HOTEL include Tsavo East and West National Park, Wesu Rock, Vuria, Hills and the Kenyatta Caves.

You should also listen to Legendary Abel Kifoto’s timeless tune Chonyi Ni Wasi—
